Quick Fixes For Windows PC Errors

In this article, we will discuss two common Windows PC errors, error codes 39 and 1706, and we will also discuss how to remove Windows Media Player updates in case they cause problems on your system.

Windows Error Code 39
The Windows error code 39 error usually occurs when a driver is missing or corrupt. It may also occur if there is a problem with file Input/Output (I/O) process. You can fix this error by updating the driver of the device that is displaying the error. Follow the steps below to update a driver:
  1. Right-click the My Computer icon on the desktop and select Properties.
  2. In the System Properties box, select Hardware tab, and then click the Device Manager.
  3. Browse through the list of installed hardware in the Device Manager window to locate the faulty driver, the faulty driver will have a yellow triangle containing an exclamation mark.
  4. Double-click on the problem device to open its properties box.
  5. Select the Driver tab and then select the Update Driver button. This will open the Hardware Update Wizard window; now follow the given instructions to complete the process.
If you find this confusing, you may opt to use a third-party device scanner to automatically scan and update all your outdated device drivers on a regular basis.

Windows error code 1706
Users generally come across an error message related to this error code when they try to install a program using InstallShield. You may receive error 1706 when the Windows Installer is unable to locate the source files that are required to run the setup the program you are trying to install. Another major reason for receiving this error is due to improper caching of the MSI file.

Repair Windows Installer 1706 Error
The guidelines listed below provide information on how to repair windows installer 1706 error:
  • When you are installing from the Web and are asked to browse to the MSI package, always make sure that the Setup.exe file on which you double-click looks for the MSI package in the correct location. To check this, open Release Wizard and check if the URL specified for the Web Server has the MSI package that needs to be downloaded in order to install your program.
  • Ensure that you are using the latest version of InstallShield.
  • Ensure you are logged in as an administrator before proceeding with the installation.
How to remove Windows Media Players Updates
Windows Media Player is a built-in feature that comes with Windows PC and just like any other vendor, Microsoft too releases regular updates for this application. The updates are aimed to enhance the feature of this application and make it more secure. Although it is recommended that you install these updates, at times, the updates, such as Windows Media Player 10 Beta and Windows Media Player 11 updates, can actually cause Windows PC errors. In such scenarios you should uninstall the updates.

The steps listed below deal with removing Windows Media Player updates using the Control Panel:
  • Go to Start, Settings and then select Control Panel.
  • Double-click on Add or Remove Programs option.
  • Click on Show Updates checkbox that is present on the top part of the Add or Remove Programs window.
  • Browse through the Currently installed programs and updates list and locate the Windows Media Player update option.
  • Select each update and click the Remove button to uninstall.
  • Restart the system after you have uninstalled all the updates that you want to remove.
