A great utility, virtually idiot proof, easy update process and it does what it’s meant to do without ads or asking for money, brilliant. Last time I checked this program had been downloaded over 200 million times since its release.

Free Laptop Security Software / Anti-VirusAVG Anti-Virus Free edition: Here is another example of a great piece of software being given away for free from Grisoft and it’s not locked down, but is listed by Grisoft as having some limitations (see below), free updates and again it’s as idiot proof as it gets. Averaging over 150,000 downloads a week and about to tip over the 8 million downloads in total, this is a must for the tight pocket user. AVG Free Edition has the following limitations: - AVG Free Edition cannot be installed on server operating systems (such as Windows Server 2003), nor can it be used for the scanning of network drives. - Scheduling options in the AVG Free Edition are very limited (only one scheduled update per day, one scheduled scan per day etc.). - AVG Free Edition receives updates via a lower priority service. Priority updating via high-speed servers is only available for purchased products. - AVG Free Edition does not offer advanced testing options, password-protected archives reporting, adjustment of scan process priority and many others. - AVG Free Edition has no technical support!
